JUbilee day 2011

25 years of croquet in fylde

The current Chairman Martin Bradshaw provided Champagne for all and a magnificent fruit cake bearing our current logo also appeared. If that were not enough, sets of engraved coaster mats were distributed as a memento. The celebrations for our jubilee centred around the Midgeland Trophy. Twelve players took part on a beautifully sunny day but many spectators and supporters also swelled the numbers making it a day to remember. Even the SSLTC Tennis Coach had a go.

Catherine Bass was joined in the final by defending champion Ian Theakstone and the match was watched by a group of spectators including past Chairmen George Warcup and Jean Fisher along with two new members who joined on the day. Many old members who no longer play also attended the celebrations. Everyone was encouraged to wear Red White and Blue for the tournament. Sadly several key members old and new were unable to come but all were remembered.

In round four Catherine beat Philip to ensure her place in the final. As the sun cast a shadow straight down the line, Steve and Ian Joined Philip in the tie breaker and Ian knocked the Champagne cork from the top of the peg to challenge Catherine. Alan was ROT and kept an eye on the final. The toast from the Chairman was to the next twenty five years.
